Ag Fest 18 is bringing a 1970s retro theme this year with collector item tire signs from the past and some old tractors as part of Valley Tire Centers National Agriculture Week that starts Monday and runs through Friday.
The actual Ag Fest is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday, at Valley Tire Centers on West Main Street. There is a barbecue with food served until 2 p.m.
Food this year will be a Texas Barbecue-style from Sandra Dees, with people having a choice of barbecue chicken, tri tip, coleslaw, potato salad, corn bread, and beans.
This year tractors on display were brought in by Valley Truck and Tractor in Woodland and Orchard Machinery in Yuba City.
Booths will represent Valley Tire Centers Social Media Department ran by Leo Beas, Firestone Farm Tire by Aaron Chavez of Valley Tire, Cooper Tire run by Ricardo Virgen, Toyo Tires operated by Luis Gallardo.
Valley Tires General Manager and owner Brett Pedroia noted that sales promotions are being held at each of the automotive booths.
In addition, the Yolo County Sheriff’s Department will show its branding booth, that in the past has promoted the branding of cattle. Other returning booths include the Woodland Community and Senior Center’s Computer Club, operated by by Shirley Leeper .
New booths this year include one operated by the Woodland Chamber of Commerce and the Yolo County Farm Bureau.
Pedroia explained the reason for Ag Fest is to give appreciation customers, farmers and ranchers and as part of that theme Pedroia will be recognizing an “Ag Fest Farmer & Rancher of the Year Award,” The inaugural awards will go to Bill Carter from Bill Carter Straw and Hay and Duane Chamberlain from Chamberlain Farms.
Pedroia said he will dedicate a plaque to both Carter and Chamberlain because Carter has donated the bales of straw since Ag Fest began in 2000. As well, Chamberlain has represented Yolo County’s agricultural community for years.
Ag Fest was created in 2000, to provide community support to national agriculture, along with a way to show customer support and appreciation.
“Agriculture is a big part of our business and provides ag products, services, to farmers and ranchers in and around Yolo County,” stated Pedroia. “That’s why Valley Tire Center leads a celebration on National Ag Week each year.”
