Jordan- First locust desert swarm eliminated: says agriculture minister

Amman, May 5 (Petra) - Desert Locust control teams have launched the spraying operations to eliminate a locust swarm that has entered the kingdom towards the area of Manoukh, 30 km east of southern Jafr region.

The reconnaissance teams reported entry of a new, bigger locust swarm, and an operation is set to start tomorrow morning to eliminate it in cooperation with the air force and control cadres, Minister of Agriculture and Environment Ibrahim Shahaheda said in a press statement on Sunday.

The minister affirmed readiness of the reconnaissance and control teams to confront the desert locusts in cooperation with the Badia forces, the air force, and the southern region military command.

The Ministry of Agriculture decided to lift the state of emergency to deal with the locust swarms.
