Kyrgyz and Moldovan Presidents discuss current state and prospects of bilateral relations

Yerevan, Oct. 1, 2019. / Kabar /. President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov, in the framework of participation in a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in Yerevan met with President of the Republic of Moldova Igor Dodon.

The current state and prospects of bilateral relations were discussed at the meeting.

Expressing interest in developing mutually beneficial cooperation with Moldova Jeenbekov noted that the level of current bilateral relations does not meet the existing potential between the countries. He once again emphasized the importance of enhancing trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian ties between Kyrgyzstan and Moldova.

Having suggested intensifying the dialogue at the level of heads of state, parliaments and governments, he invited Igor Dodon to pay an official visit to Kyrgyzstan. Jeenbekov also noted the interest of the Kyrgyz side in studying the successful experience of Moldova in promoting agricultural products to the markets of the European Union.

The President of Moldova also noted the need to intensify bilateral economic relations between the countries. He emphasized that the level of trade between Kyrgyzstan and Moldova is not high, amounting to only USD1.5 million at the end of 2018.

Dodon noted the positive cooperation of Moldova with Kyrgyzstan in the framework of membership in the EAEU, emphasized that the path of rapprochement between Moldova and the integration association began precisely in Bishkek - at the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in April 2017, where it was decided to grant Moldova observer status in the EAEU.

He expressed interest in studying the experience of Kyrgyzstan in integration into the EAEU.

Dodon accepted Jeenbekov’s invitation to pay an official visit to Kyrgyzstan and also invited him to visit Moldova.
