SANCTI SPIRITUS, Cuba, Apr 8 (ACN) After becoming in 2024 the most comprehensive entity of its kind in Cuba due to its productive technical results and efficiency in the fish farming campaign, the Sancti Spiritus Fishing Enterprise (Pescaspir), based in this central city, will host today the national event for the Workers' Day of the sector, a date celebrated every April 8.
In a year marked once again by the severe limitations of resources, the Sancti Spiritus brigades caught 3, 007 tons (t) of fish in extensive farming, a figure that allowed them to approach the volumes harvested before the COVID-19 pandemic and the world economic crisis.
According to Erich Perez Marquez, director of the entity, which has five Basic Business Units and which sustained a good part of its most experienced work force, thanks to the constant search for alternatives, the industrial production reached 2,108 tons, 127 % of the agreed amount.
Still far from satisfying the demands of the population, the company has taken on social consumption, exports and the commercialization of various assortments such as croquettes, dough, sausages and hamburgers in the network of fishmongers.
The executive insisted that despite the complex financial context, the entity continues diversifying and growing in its contributions and proof of this is that for two years it has been producing 40 million fingerlings, a commitment that facilitates the planting of all the ponds in this central territory and the delivery of a volume to the nearby provinces.
For her part, Ana Rosa Pajon, secretary of the Provincial Bureau of the Union of Workers of the Food and Fishing Industry, stressed that, in addition, this is a place where the legal norms approved for the improvement of the socialist state enterprise are applied, which allows them to achieve linkages with other forms of management, to present new products for export and on-line sales and to over-fulfill their physical indicators.
