A young girl in Middleton learned there's a lot Madison can do to reduce its carbon footprint.

Nika Agapov is a 15 year-old at Middleton High School, and the founder of Light Up Wisconsin. The organization sells stickers shaped like light bulbs with the goal of using the funds to buy LED light bulbs for people who cannot afford them or aren’t educated in the benefits of a LED light.

Nika said through her research, she learned LED lights use less energy, release less heat and can run for years. She sells her stickers for $2, and with that she can buy roughly two light bulbs.

“There just so many non-profit organizations and so many people doing stuff to help the hungry and the animals. I wanted to do something different,” said Agapov.

On Monday, Nika gave away 80 light bulbs to seniors living in the Segoe Terrace Apartments. Many seniors told her they had never installed an LED light in their home.
