LOS ALAMOS, N.M. (KRQE)– New Mexico State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Saturday morning in Los Alamos.

Police say the LAPD had been investigating numerous burglaries at the Pajarito Cliffs Site county buildings.

Around 3:30 a.m. Saturday, undercover officers spotted a gray Jeep Patriot entering the parking lot. A man holding bolt cutters exited the vehicle and approached the secure locked area.

Officers in marked units then approached the Jeep and gave commands for the man to stop and show his hands.

The man did not comply, but ran to the passenger seat of the Jeep and sped away. That is when police say shots were fired by at least one LAPD officer.

Officers followed the vehicle onto State Road 76, where the vehicle turned onto Corlett Road and crashed.

Two men then fled on foot into a wooded area and were never found by officers.

The Jeep was later identified as stolen.

State Police say there is no indication of any injuries received during the incident.

This investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call police.
