According to the Directorate of Fisheries states, nearly half of the controlled gear in recreational fishing this year was illegal. Lobster fishing, in particular, seems to be characterized by illegal practices.

Out of 966 gear inspections in recreational fishing, 407 have led to reports and seizures.

In a further 249 cases, warnings have been issued about less serious matters.

“The lobster is a sought-after but vulnerable stock… Targeted control is important.

“Presence at sea is crucial for us to be able to carry out effective control of gear, especially in recreational fishing,” Acting Director of Fisheries Per Sandberg noted.

Most inspections have been carried out in Southern Norway from the border with Sweden to Stad.
