McCook Central places five CDE firsts at state convention

BROOKINGS — Member of the McCook Central FFA chapter brought home five first-place awards at various Career Development Events during the 2021 State FFA Convention in Rapid City recently.

In addition, Ella Stiefvater of McCook Central was named a top individual in the veterinary science event in addition to the McCook Central team taking first in the team portion of the event. McCook Central’s Mason Pulse was a top individual in the agronomy event, and Ashtyn Wobig was the top individual in the poultry event.

About 1,500 South Dakota FFA members competed at the convention.

McCook Central teams were awarded firsts in the following events. Top individual finishers are also included with each event:

  • Food Science and Technology. Advisors: Terry Reickman & Tracy Chase, Paul Kaffar, Abby Blagg, Jacob Wagner, Will Rotert; Top Individual: Gabe Johnson, Garreston; Awards sponsored by Valley Queen Cheese Factory, Inc. and the team travel scholarships sponsored by Dan and Sheri Kahnke and Monte and Mary Williams.

  • Livestock Evaluation. FFA members are preparing for agriculture careers, learning the role agriculture plays in feeding and clothing the world, and looking for opportunities to grow the industry. FFA’s Career Development Events are built around ag industry careers, expose members to many of the opportunities and needs in the agriculture sector, and enable them to develop and refine their abilities to critically evaluate, effectively communicate and, ultimately, succeed in future careers.
