Harrison Ford stopped in at Amble on Thursday to enjoy some seafood and a pint of local lager.

According to staff at the Fish Shack, on Amble Harbour, the world-famous actor swung by for a few sardines, causing much excitment among locals.

The 78-year-old, who is reprising his role as all-action archeologist Indiana Jones in the fifth film in the series, took a cycling tour through Northumberland on Thursday, and it seems the Amble seafood spot was the perfect place to take a break.

The eatery announced on Facebook: "We had a VERY famous visitor at The Fish Shack today [Thursday].

"Indiana Jones himself wanted to taste our Sardines washed down with a pint of local lager, and who can blame him on such a beautiful day!!"

And the restaurant's Facebook followers were impressed by Harrison's taste.

One woman said: "Of course he did….you are legendary!"

And another added: "What an amazing guy. Love [that] he’s exploring our gorgeous region."

The Hollywood superstar, most famous for his roles as Indiana Jones and Han Solo in the Star Wars films, has thrilled locals in the North East as he tours the region, while filming takes place at Bamburgh Castle and in North Yorkshire.

He seems to have been enjoying the area's seafood in his spare time, as he also reportedly enjoyed mussels and seabass on his visit to North Shields restaurant The Ship's Cat.
