It's October, and in Idaho, it means a weather forecast that involves the four-letter word known as s-n-o-w!  Eastern Idaho is the first part of the state to welcome snowfall in the Gem State.  Our forecast appears to be focused on winds and some scattered showers.  Out east, it's a different story.

15 Signs Boise Could Be in For a Harsh, Unforgiving Winter

According to the Farmer's Almanac, these are some mostly non-weather signs that Boise could be in for a harsh winter. Have you noticed any of them happening?

The National Weather has issued a winter storm warning for the eastern parts of the state. From the National Weather Service: Moderate to heavy snow expected. Additional snow
accumulation of 2 to 5 inches below 6000 feet and 6 to 10
inches above 6000 feet. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph
through mountain passes creating areas of blowing snow and
reduced visibility.  The NWS says these areas have blowing winds and low visibility:  Island Park, Kilgore, Dubois, Spencer, Edie School,Small, Monida Pass, Raynolds Pass, and Targhee Pass.

Remember it's only October 12th and yes, eastern Idaho does historically see more snowfall than we do.  However an early snowfall is a good omen for all of us who lived through last summer's drought.

Is Winter here?
