The Station Commander of Pampierstad Police Station, Lieutenant Colonel Selebilekogosi Morebodi welcomed the sentence handed down to Mosimanegape Joel Sibanda (47).

Mosimanegape was found guilty in the Kgomotso Magistrate’s Court on a count of stock theft.

Mosimanegape was arrested and charged for stock theft together with his three accomplices who were later found not guilty. On 6 August 2021, the accused was in the company of his three accomplices, who were spotted near Jan Kempdorp, loading a white Hyundai bakkie with stolen cattle worth R30 000.

During their apprehension they failed to present ownership of the cattle to the police. The lawful owner of the cattle later arrived and positively identified the cattle as his livestock.

According to the owner, the cattle were stolen while they were in the grazing field in Seoding village, near Pampierstad.

On Thursday, 24 November 2021, Mosimanegape was found guilty and convicted on a charge of stock theft.

He was sentenced as follows; Fined R10 000 or 18 months imprisonment, wholly suspended for three years.

The South African Police Service continues to encourage livestock owners to brand mark and tattoo their livestock.
