Due to an increase in reported cases of Avian Influenza in wildlife in counties immediately surrounding Porter County, Humane Indiana has decided to postpone its inaugural Bird of Prey Jamboree until late summer of 2022.
The event was originally planned for May 21 at the Indiana Welcome Center.
The decision to postpone the event is in an effort to ensure the safety of ambassador birds of prey for the Humane Indiana facility as well as for the birds of prey at Hoots to Howls Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, according to a press release. As temperatures warm, the incidence of Avian Influenza is expected to lessen in wild birds, making it much safer to host events that include bird of prey ambassadors.
Avian Influenza is fatal to any bird of prey that becomes infected with the virus, so Humane Indiana said, “their safety must stand at the forefront of our decisions regarding education outreach. We appreciate your understanding during this time as we work to keep our non-releasable ambassador birds safe.”
