    Delhi Covid News Live: Delhi on Friday logged 445 fresh COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 2.04 per cent, while no new death was reported due the viral disease, according to data shared by the city health department here. With the new cases, Delhi's COVID-19 tally increased to 19,05,512 while the death toll stands at 26,208, the department said in its latest bulletin. A total of 21,816 COVID-19 tests were conducted in the capital the previous day, it said.

    Sikkim becomes Covid-free after two years

    Sikkim on Friday became a Covid-free state after two years with the last two patients recovering, the Health Department said. The state did not report any new case out of the 84 samples that were tested in the last 24 hours, it said. Sikkim has reported a total of 39,165 COVID-19 cases, and 37,966 patients have recovered thus far, while 747 migrated out of the northeastern state.

    OPSC halts recruitment process in varsities after UGC rap

    The Odisha Public Service Commission on Friday said it will keep in abeyance the recruitment process of teachers, after the UGC alleged violation of a Supreme Court order on implementation of the Odisha Universities (Amendment) Act 2020. The move comes a day after the UGC, in separate letters to the OPSC and the state's higher education department, said the hiring process of faculty or non-teaching staff in universities should not be conducted for three months in the wake of the apex court order.

    Nigeria issues measures to prevent possible spread of monkeypox

    The Nigerian government on Friday set up an inter-ministerial committee to prevent the possible spread of the monkeypox disease in the country. There was no recorded case of monkeypox in Nigeria yet, said Mohammad Abubakar, minister of agriculture and rural development, at a news conference in Abuja, the nation's capital, on Friday. Abubakar said his ministry, through the department of veterinary and pest control services, is working assiduously in collaboration with relevant stakeholders and agencies to sensitize the public on the monkeypox virus for early containment.

    8 killed in east China landslides

    Eight people were killed after two buildings collapsed due to landslides triggered by downpours on Friday in Wuping County, east China's Fujian Province, local authorities said Saturday. Starting from Thursday evening, heavy rainfall has been lashing the county, with the highest precipitation exceeding 220 millimetres within 24 hours. Five people were found dead in a collapsed factory building while three others died after a residential building collapsed, said the county's information office.

    Voter turnout in Jharkhand panchayat polls dips

    Altogether 68.99 per cent of the 58.16 lakh voters exercised their franchise in the final of the four-phase panchayat elections in Jharkhand on Friday, an official said. The average voting percentage of all the phases was 69.64 per cent, as against 73.29 per cent in the 2015 elections, the official said. In the final phase, a total of 1,299 gram panchayats went to the polls across 23 districts to elect 8,491 panchayat members, 1,293 mukhiyas, 1,449 panchayat samiti members and 158 Zilla Parishad members.

Over 11.5 lakh candidates have already registered for the test.     Chhattisgarh sees 1 COVID-19 case, no death; active tally now 51

    Chhattisgarh on Friday recorded one COVID-19 case, taking the tally to 11,52,418, while the death toll remained unchanged at 14,034, an official said. The lone case, at a positivity rate of 0.03 per cent, was reported in Raipur, while 13 districts have no active case at the moment, he said. The recovery count increased by five to touch 11,38,333, leaving the state with 51 active cases, the official said.

    The flood situation in Assam improved considerably on Friday with waters receding in most rivers even as over 5 lakh people continued to suffer in the deluge in ten districts of the state, an official bulletin said. The toll due to flood and landslides remained at 30 with no reports of any death in the last 24 hours, as per the bulletin issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA). Kopili in Morigaon district was the only river flowing above the danger mark, it said.

    Singapore reports 3,830 new COVID-19 cases

    Singapore reported 3,830 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, bringing the total tally to 1,290,046. Of the new cases, 418 cases were detected through PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests and 3,412 through ART (antigen rapid test) tests, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Health. Among the PCR-confirmed cases, 404 were local transmissions and 14 were imported cases. Among the ART-confirmed cases with mild symptoms and assessed to be of low risk, there were 3,306 local transmissions and 106 imported cases, respectively.

    COVID-19: One new death, 113 fresh cases in Rajasthan

    A coronavirus patient died and 113 new cases of the infection were reported in Rajasthan on Friday. With this, the number of coronavirus deaths and cases in the state so far has increased to 9,556 and 12,85,523 respectively, according to an official report. The death was reported in Dausa while 62 new cases were reported from Jaipur, nine from Alwar, eight from Baran, seven from Churu, five from Dholpur, four each from Ajmer and Jhalawar, while Dausa and Jodhpur registered three new infections each.

    United Spirits Q4 profit down 12% at Rs 179 crore

    Diageo-controlled liquor maker United Spirits Ltd (USL) on Friday reported a 12.14 per cent decline in consolidated net profit at Rs 178.6 crore for the fourth quarter ended March as margins were impacted by rising inflation. The company had posted a net profit of Rs 203.3 crore in the year-ago period, according to a regulatory filing. However, its revenue from operations was up 1.16 per cent at Rs 7,767.3 crore during the quarter under review. In the same period a year ago, it stood at Rs 7,678.1 crore.

    IISc team develops enhanced data encryption, security device

    An Indian Institute of Science team has developed a "record-breaking" true random number generator (TRNG), which can improve data encryption and provide improved security for sensitive digital data such as credit card details, passwords and other personal information. The study describing this device has been published in the journal 'ACS Nano', the Bengaluru-based IISc, said in a press release on Friday. “Almost everything we do on the internet is encrypted for security. The strength of this encryption depends on the quality of random number generation,” says Nithin Abraham, a PhD student at the Department of Electrical Communication Engineering (ECE), IISc.

    FSN E-Commerce, which operates under the Nykaa brand, on Friday reported a decline of about 57 per cent in its consolidated profit to Rs 7.57 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 2022.     Mizoram records lowest infant mortality rate in country for second consecutive year

    Mizoram has the lowest infant mortality rate (IMR) in the country with three deaths per thousand live births, as per data published by the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India. The Northeastern state made the achievement for the second consecutive year, officials in Aizawl said. Nagaland with an IMR of four secured second place, followed by Sikkim and Goa having an IMR of five each, as per the Sample Registration System (SRS) bulletin 2020.

    Power Min modifies norms for pass through of cost of imported coal

    Future Consumer Q4 net loss widens to Rs 346 cr, revenue dips 32 pc

    Future Consumer Ltd (FCL), the food-led FMCG company of debt-ridden Future Group, on Friday reported widening of its net loss to Rs 346.23 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 31, 2022. The company, which posted a net loss of Rs 155.12 crore in the January-March quarter a year ago, said due to the impact of COVID-19 and insolvency proceedings against its main customer Future Retail Ltd, there is a material uncertainty over the group's ability to continue as a going concern. Its revenue from operations was down 32.03 per cent to Rs 262.54 crore during the period under review, as against Rs 386.26 crore in the corresponding period last fiscal, FCL said in a regulatory filing.

    Sebi tweaks cyber security, cyber resilience framework for QRTAs

    Capital markets regulator Sebi on Friday tweaked the framework pertaining to cyber security and cyber resilience for Qualified Registrars to an Issue and Share Transfer Agents (QRTAs). QRTAs have been mandated to conduct comprehensive cyber audit at least twice in a financial year, Sebi said in a circular. Also, QTRAs need to submit a declaration from their respective MD/CEO certifying compliance by them with all Sebi guidelines related to cyber security, along with the cyber audit reports.

    Hitachi Energy India on Friday posted an over 31 per cent rise in net profit to Rs 51.68 crore for the March quarter, mainly on the back of higher revenues. The company had posted a net profit of Rs 39.44 crore in the quarter ended March 31, 2021, a BSE filing showed.     Logistics company TCI Express on Friday posted over 14 per cent fall in its net profit at Rs 35.93 crore during the March 2022 quarter.     Army statement: Fatal casualties due to vehicle accident in Turtuk Sector

    A party of 26 soldiers was moving from the Transit Camp in Partapur to a forward location in Sub Sector Hanif. At approx 0900h, around 25km from Thoise, the vehicle skidded off the road and fell in Shyok river (to a depth of approx 50-60ft), resulting in injuries to all occupants. All 26 individuals have been evacuated to 403 Field Hospital at Partapur and Surgical teams from Leh have moved to Partapur. Seven individuals have been declared Fatal so far. There are grievous injuries to others as well. Dedicated efforts are underway to ensure that the best medical care is provided to the injured, including requisition of air effort from the Air Force to shift the more serious casualties to Western Command.
