The Only African Country That Exports Electricity To Europe :{Photos}

According to JLS magazine, Spain and Morocco signed a memorandum of understanding concerning the construction of a power interconnection between the two countries. The line has a technical capacity of 1,400 MW and is 31.3 km long. This will allow the integration of renewable energy, mainly photovoltaic into the European electricity system.

Spain wants 100% renewable energy by 2030 as part of its climate change strategy. By end of 2020, Morocco aims to have renewable energy constitute 42% of its energy consumption. The British is planning to develop a solar and wind power complex in the Moroccan desert. The aim is to produce 10.5 GW of electricity that will cross the territorial waters of France, Spain, and Portugal.

Morocco has the highest rate of solar insolation with about 3,600 hours of sunshine in the desert. The world’s largest concentrated solar farm is built on an area of more than 3,000 hectares. A cylinder full of salt is melted by the warmth from the mirrors during the day and stays hot enough at night to provide up to three (3) hours of power. It uses a cutting-edge design, combining a large array of 224 parabolic mirror collectors concentrating sun solar.
