TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A local, family farm is looking to provide a place for the people of the Wabash Valley to get their produce, eggs, honey, and more while also providing people with the opportunity to connect with the community and those that supply their food.
Kindred Roots Farm is an 18-acre farm within city limits that is designed for agriculture. Co-owned by the Mason family and Peters’ family since June of 2022, the farm is growing quickly and the owners have big plans for the future.
“We’re currently in the process of turning part of our barn into a store,” explained Kindred Roots farm co-owner Josh Mason. “We want to work with other farms in the area to provide dairy, meat, things like that. And hopefully, bring people out here to the farm.”
Wanting to create a space for people to get back to the basics and to connect with the agriculture of the area, Kindred Roots hopes to build a store that will collaborate with multiple other farms in the area to supply people with fresh produce, eggs, dairy, meat, flowers, plant starts, baked bread, and more.
While the store is currently under construction, Kindred Roots has also been busy promoting the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program they’re a part of. This program gives people in the area the opportunity to sign up for the CSA weekly farm boxes in which the people around the area can pay for a box of produce that can feed anywhere from one to six people, that they can pick up from various places in the Wabash Valley or get delivered to their door for a small extra fee and as long as they live within Terre Haute city limits.
Recently adding eggs to the list of items people can buy through the CSA program at $4.00 for a dozen small eggs and $5.00 for a dozen large eggs, Kindred Roots Farms is working to bring fresh and local food options to the people in the community.
“We hope to make a place where the people of the Wabash Valley can get to know where their vegetables come from and who grows them. We enjoy talking to people and getting to know the community,” Mason said.
