April 8, 1945 – April 8, 2024

Ronald was born in an internment camp in Poston, Arizona. He and his family were among about 18,000 people of Japanese ancestry imprisoned at this site during World War II. During his childhood, Ron played and worked on his family’s farm in Otay Valley, Chula Vista, Calif.

He was a student at Chula Vista High School and joined the wrestling and cheer teams. While he attended a dance at the Buddhist Temple of San Diego, Ron met Sandy, who became his wife and mother of their four children.

While raising his young family, he graduated from San Diego State University, then developed his professional career and practice as a CPA. Ron was driven by his work, but his many interests included bowling, playing the banjo, coaching baseball, golfing, pier-lake-deep-sea fishing, enjoying the outdoors, watching TV and movies, going on road trips, and dining with family and friends.

Family members called him Ronnie and recall his pranks and adventures as an energetic child. Ron is also known for his wonderful sense of humor, his love for people and puppies, and his generous spirit. During his final years with us, he provided in-home caregiving for his mother (who lived to be 102 years old) and his sister with special needs. Ron will be remembered as a beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, cousin, uncle, and friend.

Any donations can be made to the Gardena Buddhist Church or the Japanese American National Museum in memory of Ronald.
