South Hills student achievements for the week of Jan. 28, 2025
Baldwin High School student Rakshya Kafle was honored with the Whitehall Borough Historical Society Student Award. Kafle was presented with a plaque and a $500 scholarship for her future education. Her name is also inscribed in the large plaque which will be on display in the Whitehall Borough Building in the Society’s display case and three books purchased in her name: one for her to keep, one for the Baldwin High School Library, and another to the Whitehall Borough Library. She was nominated by the history department at Baldwin High School.
Maddi Adams was among more than 660 first-year students welcomed to the Baldwin Wallace University campus this fall who earned more than $12.6 million in merit scholarships. Adams, a graduate of Oakland Catholic High School majoring in psychology, earned a $21,000 President’s Scholarship based on outstanding academic achievements in high school.
Baldwin High School student Michael Quallich qualified for the PIAA Golf Championships in October at Penn State Golf Courses in State College. To earn his spot, he delivered a standout performance, claiming the individual section championship.
Connor McCann was named to the Elmira College dean’s list for the fall 2024 term.
Darby Sandrock was named among the students who qualified for Belmont University’s fall 2024 dean’s list.

Baldwin High School has been recognized by the Prime Stage High School Drama Awards, a program that celebrates excellence in high school theatre for non-musical productions, with five nominations for its production of “Little Women.” Abby Horn was nominated for best actress, Emma Underwood was nominated for best student scenic design/fabrication, August Seman was nominated for best student makeup design/application, Horn and Underwood were nominated for best student prop design/fabrication, and Horn was nominated for best student program/poster design.
The following South Hills students made the dean’s list at Westminster College for the fall 2024 semester: Robert Bootay, Heidi Douglass, Aaliyah Freeman, Bailey Garbowsky, Hayden Kenny, Emma Overlingas, Nathaniel Philips, Justin Ranft, Christine Rossi and Jacob Wagner.
Dylan Carfara made the Susquehanna University dean’s list for the fall 2024 semester.
Mallory Daly has been named to the University at Buffalo’s fall 2024 dean’s list.
Baldwin High School senior Khadicha Kosimjonova earned regional recognition as a member of Junior Achievement of Western PA’s 18 Under Eighteen and a full scholarship to Columbia University, where she plans to study medicine.
William O’Brien was named to the president’s list at The State University of New York at Potsdam for the fall 2024 semester.
