ALBANY, N.Y. — The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation launched a platform where you can report suspected HPAI, more commonly known as the Avian Flu. The platform was created to help monitor the spread of the Avian Flu in New York State.
You can find the form at this link.
Once a report is received, DEC’s field response is guided by the report’s details, including the number of sick or dead birds, bird species and observations from new areas where Avian Flu has not yet been documented, the Department of Environmental Conservation said, noting that it is particularly interested in reports of suspected outbreaks in all species of waterfowl, raptors, crows, shorebirds, gulls, loons and herons. According to the DEC, these species are particularly susceptible to the disease.
The DEC said the Avian Flu is continuing to infect birds and mammals in New York as well as the rest of the country and Canada.

The first detection of the Avian Flu in New York was in a backyard poultry flock in Suffolk County in February 2022, the DEC said. Since then, it has been detected in free-ranging wild birds and wild mammals in several countries.
