During a working visit to Logar province, the diplomat highlighted a program organized by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to distribute improved seeds and chemical fertilizers.
Fazıl Akın Erdoğan, the TIKA coordinator, who also attended the event, mentioned that the Islamic Emirate (Taliban government) has made significant strides in combating opium poppy and other narcotics. He stated, “In coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, we have launched a seed project in Kandahar. The planting season is approaching, and work will begin soon.”
Afghanistan’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock, Sadr Azam Osmani, added that efforts are underway to mechanize the national agricultural sector. He reported that 700 small water reservoirs are currently being constructed, saying, “We are striving to build reservoirs in all areas of Afghanistan facing water shortages and to manage water resources, as water levels are decreasing.”
