Popular coffee creamers recalled across 31 states in US; what FDA informed about health risks

Several thousand bottles of popular coffee creamers have been recalled after receiving complaints of spoilage and illness from customers. The US FDA announced that more than 75,000 bottles of International Delight creamer are being recalled in 31 states in the US including Florida, Texas and New York.
32-ounce bottles of two flavours - International Delight Cinnabon Classic Cinnamon Roll and International Delight Hazelnut coffee creamers have been impacted.
The brand's parent company, Danone, based in Louisville, Colorado, recalled the products voluntarily on February 21 after receiving customer complaints, according to FDA. No termination date has been issued.
A coffee creamer is a liquid or powdered substance used to lighten and sweeten coffee, often as a substitute for milk or cream. It typically contains a blend of sugars, oils, and thickeners to create a creamy texture. It could be dairy-based or non-dairy based. It may also come in flavours like vanilla, caramel, hazelnut, and seasonal flavours.
The recall has been termed by FDA as a Class II risk on March 12. This means the product “may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences.”
“International Delight is aware of a texture issue that some consumers have experienced with two of our creamers,” a representative for Danone North America told Fox News Digital. “We take every concern to heart, because this is not the quality we strive for.” It is not yet known how many people became sick.

Danone North America says the recalled products didn't meet the quality standards due to premature spoilage which showed up as a texture issue.
"While we know this is disappointing for our creamer fans, testing data has confirmed that this is not a food safety issue," the statement read. "We chose to voluntarily recall these isolated products out of an abundance of caution while we address the quality issue."
Consumers who have purchased the aforementioned products are advised to throw them away or return them. Anyone who fell sick after consuming the recalled coffee creamers should request medical attention.
The list of the states where the creamers are sold include Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

Coffee creamer can be spoiled due to various factors like improper storage, contamination, or exceeding the recommended shelf life, leading to a sour taste or the appearance of clumps or particles.
Milk-based creamers, specifically, need to be refrigerated to maintain their freshness. Storing them at room temperature for extended periods can lead to bacterial growth and spoilage.
Also consider the 'best by' date. While it is different from expiration date, it's best to use the creamer before the date to ensure optimal quality.

Having a small amount of bad coffee creamer can cause bloating, stomach ache, gas, nausea, or diarrhea. It can also lead to foodborne illnesses with symptoms like stomach cramps, diarrhea, and vomiting, or even fever in severe cases.
