UK consumers have been urged to check their kitchens after a major recall involving up to 12 garlic powder products over life-threatening allergy risks.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) issued an alert that a dozen UK-sold garlic powders could pose severe health risks.

Damasgate Wholesale has initiated a recall of its Sofra Garlic Powder after discovering the presence of peanuts, which are not declared on the label, possibly triggering deadly allergic reactions in some individuals.

Shoppers have been given clear instructions on what to do if they have purchased any of the implicated products: "Check if you have bought any of the affected Lot Numbers listed above of the Sofra Garlic Powder 100g.

"You can do this by taking a picture of this notice or writing down the Lot Numbers and Best Before End listed above for reference at home."

Those who find they have one of the specified lots should return it to the shop: "Return the product(s) to the store for a full refund (with or without a receipt)."

The warning extends to FSA Ireland as well, stressing that the products' labels fail to mention peanut content, making them dangerous for anyone with allergies or intolerance to peanuts, who should avoid consuming the affected batch, reports Birmingham Live.

The news comes after a second product recall has been announced for a cat food brand over possible fears of bird flu contamination. This past weekend saw the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issue a warning over 66 boxes of Savage Pet’s raw chicken cat food.

In February, Wild Coast LLC dba Wild Coast Raw announced a recall on its frozen Boneless Free Range Chicken Formula raw cat food over fears it was contaminated with the same virus, also called Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) H5N1.
