Lincolnshire representatives meet at House of Lords to discuss food sector challenges




Lincolnshire representatives gathered at the House of Lords to discuss the region’s food sector challenges.

The event on March 11, hosted by the UK Fresh Produce Network (UKFPN), featured prominent voices from across Lincolnshire’s food industry, with key speakers including chairman Lord Waverley, head of the Lincolnshire FA Jonathan Van Tam, international trade coach at the Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce Eve Farley, and head of the UKFPN Tammy Doughty.

The discussions focused on overcoming obstacles, particularly post-Brexit regulations, funding, and the need for a skilled workforce.

The UKFPN received support from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, distributed by South East Lincolnshire Council’s Partnership, to enable the event.

Eve Farley, representing Business Lincolnshire’s Round Table series and with experience in the Foreign Office and Department for Business and Trade, shared insights into the sector's struggles, especially for exporters.

Eve emphasised the importance of collaboration to navigate regulatory barriers and secure necessary investment.

“This incredible gathering brought together key voices to discuss funding, finance, and trade—critical drivers of business success in today’s global economy,” she said.

The event highlighted Lincolnshire’s potential as a leader in AI-driven agricultural technology and the role of automation in improving supply chain efficiency.

Businesses highlighted, in particular, the challenges in securing funding, as well as the difficulty in navigating complex regulations post-Brexit and the need for a long-term workforce strategy.

Boston’s Tammy, head of UKFPN, underscored the critical role of cross-sector partnerships.

“The UKFPN is about bringing together the full supply chain, connecting innovators with investors, and ensuring businesses of all sizes have the support they need to thrive,” she said.

“This event was a fantastic example of what happens when we unite expertise, resources, and ambition to drive the industry forward.”

“The House of Lords provided an esteemed platform for UKFPN members to showcase their expertise and passion while fostering connections that further innovation and sustainability in food production,” she added.

“This event exemplifies the power of strategic partnerships in championing the region's economic and agricultural potential.”

Discussions also highlighted international partnerships, with Jamaica’s trade delegation showcasing opportunities for digital transformation and new markets.

The event concluded with a reception hosted by the Jamaican High Commission, enhancing global ties.

The UKFPN continues to advocate for the region’s fresh produce sector, pushing for policies that support sustainable growth and increased trade.

It has established an All Party Parliamentary Group to address sector challenges with MPs and policymakers, with Tammy serving as the secretariat.
