Kyrgyzstan plans to increase exports of agricultural products to China. Marat Asypbekov, Deputy Director of the Department of Chemicalization, Plant Protection and Quarantine under the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic, told on the air of Birinchi Radio.
According to him, opening of a control warehouse of the Kyrgyz Republic in the city of Ulugqat will contribute to this.
«Previously, there was no such trade and logistics center, where our products could be sorted and packed. Thanks to the work of the warehouse, customs clearance will be fast, document verification will be in a matter of hours. In addition, there are laboratories there — phytosanitary, veterinary, quarantine ones, where the Chinese side will check products for compliance with their requirements. Warehouses and hangars will have refrigeration equipment, where our farmers will be able to store products until they receive all the necessary permits,» Marat Asypbekov said.
According to the Cabinet of Ministers, the control warehouse is divided into four zones: vegetables, freezing, laboratory and general cargo. The warehouse is capable of receiving more than 1 million tons of produce per year.
«The first stage will start with the export of corn, two vehicles have already been sent. If it meets all the requirements of the PRC and our colleagues have no complaints, we will start sending other products of the agro-industrial complex,» Marat Asypbekov said.
According to his data, cotton fiber, cherries from Batken, wheat flour, fodder crops (sainfoin, alfalfa), walnuts were sent to China in 2024, in the future it is planned to increase the export of melons, soybeans and grapes. The Chinese side requires a signed bilateral protocol for each type of agricultural products.
«We are working on increasing the range — potatoes, berries (strawberries, currants, raspberries), vegetables, barley can be exported. There are no protocols for this yet, but the Chinese side sent us technical questions, which we answered. In 2024 we signed a protocol for the export of beans, now we are working on dried fruits,» Marat Asypbekov added.
He stressed that the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry analyzes food security in the country and only then decides what surplus can be exported.
For example, Kyrgyzstan annually harvests about 1.2 million tons of potatoes. The domestic demand is 700,000 tons, part of it used as seeds for the next harvest, and the rest can be exported.
«In this regard, we can also offer apricots, peaches, cherries. Chinese importers are ready to accept agricultural products from Kyrgyzstan in any volume, if they meet all the requirements. They are strict, so we need to prepare in advance to meet them,» Marat Asypbekov emphasized.
According to him, interested agricultural producers should first contact the department and submit an application about when, in what volume and what products they are ready to supply to China. Based on the application, they will be consulted on the necessary documents. After collecting them, they need to go through the registration procedure, after which the Chinese side will consider the issue of issuing an export permit. Only then agricultural producers can use the control warehouse in the city of Ulugqat, from where the products will be exported throughout the territory of the PRC.
