European demand for Egyptian carrots has picked up recently

Thanks to help from Dutch and Spanish experts, the quality of Egyptian carrots has improved a whole lot, says Rayan El Sawy, Chairman of fresh produce exporter Egyptian-Emirati Import & Export: "We grow carrots in Nubaria on 400 hectares and in Wadi El Natrun on a little 1200 hectares. Recently, we collaborated with agricultural experts from the Netherlands and Spain to improve the quality of Egyptian products and raw material standards. This initiative is part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the competitiveness of our products. As a result, this year was much better in terms of quality compared to the previous season."

Despite a slower start to the season, European demand for carrots has picked up recently, El Sawy explains. "Current demand for carrots has been growing stronger as the season progressed. At the start of the carrot season, demand was actually rather weak, due to the large availability of the product in Europe, particularly in Poland and the Netherlands. On top of that, in terms of pricing the Egyptian carrots were among the most expensive compared to competitors. However, at this stage of the season, Egyptian carrots are now the best choice in terms of quality and price."

O© Egyptian Emirati Import and Exportverall, Egyptian-Emirati managed to reach several new markets this year, both inside and outside of Europe, El Sawy states: "We've successfully reached new markets this year, such as Slovenia, Poland, and Spani. In addition, we've acquired a strong customer base in Germany, France, Italy, Portugal, Belgium, and Hungary. So overall, we're very satisfied with our presence in the European markets. That being said, the abundance of available carrots in this market prompted us to explore alternative markets in the Gulf, Middle East, and Africa so they could absorb our volumes. These initiatives have proven highly successful for us."

"I believe the current market outlook is very promising, with the increased demand for carrots at this point in time. The high demand allows us to price our carrots accordingly, with the quality we're able to offer," El Sawy concludes.
