Mabel Motte D’Ambrosio passed away peacefully in her home on March 20th, 2025, surrounded by her family and loved ones.
Born November 30, 1925 on the family farm in Price, Utah, Mabel lived a life deeply rooted in hard work, faith, and family. From an early age, she embraced the responsibilities of farm life—rising at 5 a.m. to milk cows (even on her wedding day), and again in the evening, with skill that would rival any milking machine.
She told stories of thinning beets, tending livestock, and working with sheep—laboring Monday through Saturday, with Sundays reserved for a ride in the country, an evening picnic, or a movie at the Dime Struggle. From her mother, she learned how to cook French meals; from her father, she learned how to farm—following closely behind his horse and plow until he stopped to pick her up. She rode along all summer long, eventually taking the reins and running the team of horses, while her brother Rebail tossed hay and she stacked it high. Her hands worked the land and shaped the lives of those she loved.
Mabel met the love of her life, John Rocco D’Ambrosio, as a young woman. They spent their early years dating and dancing at a local tavern—her favorite blue pleated dress twirling to the music and holding onto John’s finger tightly as they rolled around the skating rink. Together, they shared 44 beautiful years of marriage and raised five children.
Mabel carried the skills she learned in her youth to their own farm and turned it into a home—gathering kindling for the wood-burning stove, preparing hearty meals that nourished both body and soul, and adjusting her French culinary expertise to Italian to appease her in-laws and husband. Their home was filled with laughter, love, and the scent of fresh bread from Mabel’s kitchen. She was a steady and nurturing presence in the lives of all who knew her—a trait she passed on to her daughters Janet and Jo Ann, who tirelessly cared for her until the day of her passing, while her sons took the lessons they learned from her and worked the land.
Mabel’s home was more than just a place to live—it was a gathering place for all. Every holiday, the house was brimming with family; you’d have to hold your plate of food above your head just to make it through the room. On those special days her freezer was always lined with homemade pies, and the comforting aroma of pasta and slow-cooked sauce often filled the air. That was Mabel’s magic—she created spaces so full of love they overflowed.
Mabel is survived by her five children, Terry (Bonnie) D’Ambrosio, Johnny (Kathy) D’Ambrosio, Janet (Frank) Ori, Danny (Maryln) D’Ambrosio, and Jo Ann (Michael) Ori, as well as a special soul-daughter, Linda (Bob) Howa, 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. A legacy of kindness, resilience, and deep devotion spanning five generations.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John D’Ambrosio; her parents, Marie and Othon Motte; her sister, Kate Biggs; her brother, Ribail Motte; her grandson Paul D’Ambrosio, and her great grandson, Alex Yoklavich.
Mabel found joy in the simple, quiet beauty of rural life, which she turned into a successful career—serving her community through the sale of beef, potatoes, milk, cheese, and butter, all made by her own hands. She had a deep love for her garden and a special fondness for her animals—chickens, peacocks, ducks, cows, geese, and her loyal chihuahuas, Pewee and Mimi.
Her life was a testament to grace in action, to humility, to hard work, and to unwavering love for family. Mabel’s legacy will live on in the traditions she taught, the values she upheld, and the countless lives she touched with her warmth and wisdom. Yet she asked only to be remembered as she was — a lifelong, hardworking farmer. All she needed was a little bit of sunshine — and sometimes, even in the rain.
You will be missed dearly — and remembered always. Rest in peace Grandma Bobo.
