Countywide broadband project to receive more towers
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - On Monday's Yuma County Board of Supervisors meeting, they approved the installation of seven more broadband towers.
These towers are meant to help the agriculture industry have better internet, and therefore allow the industry to continue to grow.
"It's basically Wi-Fi for the farm, but it's a much more robust system," said vice chairmen for the B.O.S Jonathan Lines.
This then leads to more access for better technology, such as implementing the use of AI.
The county explains how this helps elevate Yuma agriculture.
"It really puts Yuma on the forefront of that next generation agriculture and the next generation ability to provide the nation's food," said Lines.
Executive Director Tanya Hodges with the University of Arizona shares why AG other companies are beginning to come to Yuma.
"The world is getting hotter and dryer and Yuma is the example. There's that are people coming in and wanting to learn more about how do we grow with less water," said Hodges.
She goes on to explain how the towers will help.
"That will then set us up to bring in other companies from all around the world to test," said Hodges.
The total cost for all towers will be around seven million dollars, but they are coming from the ARPA fund.
