The Fayette County Supervisors on Monday approved the county’s fiscal year 2025-26 property tax levy. The approved levy includes an estimated property tax asking of approximately $9.14 (per $1,000 taxable valuation) for rural residents, which is an approximate 2 cent increase from the previous fiscal year. The approved urban property tax asking is $5.93, which is an approximate 5 cent increase.

The levies for the general basic and rural services will decrease, while the general supplemental levy will see a slight increase. Revenues will be used for human resources, information technology, increased insurance costs and costs with the county farm building.

Following the property tax levy public hearing, the supervisors set the date for the fiscal year 2025-26 budget hearing for 10 a.m. Monday, April 14. A 2024-25 budget amendment hearing will follow at 10:45 a.m.

In other business, the supervisors:

• Accepted the annual audit provided by Hacker Nelson & Co.

• Approved updating the general relief director designee for Fayette County as Martin Ahrndt, Northeast Iowa Community Action Family & Community Partnership Specialist – Enrollment.

• Approved placement of pinwheels on courthouse lawn during the week of April 14 in recognition of Child Abuse Awareness Week.
