Gwyneth Paltrow addresses Meghan Markle 'beef' in surprise social media video days after fans accused her of 'trolling' Duchess' lifestyle brand
Hollywood star and wellness guru Gwyneth Paltrow has responded to speculation of a rift with Meghan Markle in a surprise video cameo that left fans stunned.
Gwyneth Paltrow has addressed claims of "beef" between herself and Meghan Markle, after fans accused the wellness mogul of throwing shade at the Duchess' new lifestyle ventures.
The 52-year-old Goop founder responded to the rumours during a Q&A on Instagram, where she appeared relaxed in aviator-style glasses, a taupe cardigan from her own label, and a chunky gold chain.
"Are you comprehending the Meghan Markle beef that social media says you two have?" one follower asked.
"I really do not understand this, at all. Whatsoever," Paltrow replied, turning to someone off-camera and asking: "Do you understand this?"
To the shock of viewers, Markle herself then appeared beside Paltrow, casually eating a piece of pie and shrugging in confusion while making a "huh?" sound.
The Duchess, 43, later shared the video on her own account.
The playful clip followed several days of mounting speculation that Paltrow had taken aim at Markle's latest cooking show With Love, Meghan, and her broader lifestyle ambitions.
On Sunday, Paltrow posted a video showcasing her "cleaner take" on a bacon and egg breakfast, set to Natalie Cole's This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)—the same song featured in the trailer for Meghan's new Netflix series.
Filmed in her Montecito kitchen, just minutes from the $29 million estate shared by Meghan and Prince Harry, Paltrow smiled cheekily in stripy pyjamas as she sipped from a mug, patted her dog, and showed off her breakfast creation.
Some fans interpreted the timing and soundtrack as a subtle jab at the Duchess, who has been accused of modelling her brand on Paltrow's Goop empire.
Markle's new show, With Love, Meghan, which premiered on March 4 under the Sussexes' Archewell Productions banner, sees the Duchess hosting guests for cooking, gardening, and entertaining segments.
Meghan is also gearing up to release products on her As Ever website, as well as launching a 'ShopMy' digital storefront where fans can shop her favourite fashion and beauty picks.
In an interview published Tuesday, Paltrow admitted she "doesn't know" her royal neighbours, which surprises her "considering how close they live."
"I mean, I've met Meghan, who seems really lovely, but I don’t know her at all,” she clarified.
"Maybe I’ll try to get through their security detail and bring them a pie."
Still, Paltrow dismissed talk of competition.
"I was raised to see other women as friends, not foes," she said.
"I think there’s always more than enough to go around. Everybody deserves an attempt at everything that they want to try."
Goop, which Paltrow launched in 2008, is now reportedly worth around USD$250 million.
Meanwhile, Meghan's lifestyle journey has had a rockier start.
Her original blog, The Tig, was shut down in 2017 shortly after her relationship with Prince Harry became public.
After the couple stepped down from royal duties in 2020 and moved to California, she teased a comeback with a new lifestyle brand called American Riviera Orchard in 2024.
However, the brand was scrapped earlier this year due to trademark issues, and unfortunately, its successor, As Ever, is appearing to have similar troubles.
As Ever products, such as flower sprinkles, fruit spreads, and herbal teas are expected to be available for purchase in the months to come.
