Popular spinach varieties have been stripped from shelves at Aldi supermarkets in two states over contamination fears.
Fresh Salad Co's Baby Spinach, Fast Stir Fry and Rocket packets are being recalled due to concerns of microbial Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) contamination.
The impacted products have been available for sale in Aldi supermarkets in Queensland, the food safety watchdog confirmed in its recall notice on Tuesday.
They have been available for purchase in some northern New South Wales stores, including Tweed Heads South, Ballina, Grafton, Coffs Harbour, Lismore, Casino, Toormina, Armidale, Byron Bay, Goonellabah, Tweed Mall and Moonee Beach.
Food Standards Australia and New Zealand warned "food products contaminated with STEC may cause illness if consumed".
"Consumers should not eat these products. Consumers should return the products to the place of purchase for a full refund," the recall notice read.
The impacted products include Fresh Salad Co Baby Spinach 120g, with the use by date of March 28, and Fresh Salad Co Fresh and Fast Stir Fry 400g, with the use by marking of March 27.
Packets of Fresh Salad Co Baby Spinach and Rocket 120g, with the use by date of March 27, and Fresh Salad Co Baby Spinach 280g with the use by March 30 are also affected.
Any customers who are concerned about their health should seek medical advice, the food safety watchdog said.
