Another battle won for Greek feta abroad

Another battle won for Greek feta abroad

Greece scored a considerable judicial victory in Chile, safeguarding that the cheese product named “feta” is only Greek, as a court rejected a recourse by a US multinational last week.

Following the actions by the Association of Hellenic Industries of Dairy Products (SEVGAP), last Thursday the Chilean court of second degree on industrial property rejected the appeal by the US Consortium of Common Food Names (CCFN) on behalf of Lactalis, which produces cheese by the name “Athenos Feta.”

This vindicates the original decision by Chile’s National Institute of Industrial Property (INAPI), effectively protecting feta’s Greekness.
