New business landscape across North America causes confusion for lumber industry

Commodity prices to shipping timelines to overall supply were hard to pin down. Many experienced players hadn’t seen lumber market conditions like this in careers spanning multiple decades.
In the week ending March 14, 2025, the price of benchmark softwood lumber item Western Spruce-Pine-Fir 2×4 #2&Btr KD (RL) was US$550 mfbm. This is up +$15, or +3%,from the previous week when it was $535, said weekly forest products industry price guide newsletter Madison’s Lumber Reporter.
That week’s price is up +$68, or +14%, from one month ago when it was $483.
Compared to the same week last year, when it was US$452 mfbm, that week’s price was up +$98, or +22%. Compared to two years ago when it was $365, that week’s price was up +$185, or +51%.
In the week ending March 14, 2025, the price of Southern Yellow Pine East Side 2×4 #2&Btr KD (RL) was US$465 mfbm. This is up +$5, or +1%, from the previous week when it was $460.
That week’s price is up +$18, or +4%, from one month ago when it was $448.
When compared to the same week last year, when it was $415, that week’s price was up +$50, or +12%. Compared to two years ago when it was $512, that week’s price was down -$47, or -9%.
