China Import and Export Fair, also known as the Canton Fair, was established in the spring of 1957. Co-hosted by the Ministry of Commerce of PRC and the People's Government of Guangdong Province and organized by China Foreign Trade Centre, it is held every spring and autumn in Guangzhou, China. As a comprehensive international trading event with the longest history, the largest scale, the most complete exhibit variety, the largest buyer attendance, the most diverse buyer origin and the greatest business turnover in China, Canton Fair is hailed as China’s No.1 Fair and the barometer of China’s foreign trade.

As the window, epitome and symbol of China's opening up and an important platform for international trade cooperation, Canton Fair has withstood various challenges and never been interrupted since its inception. It has been successfully held for 136 sessions and established trade relations with more than 229 countries and regions around the world. The accumulated export volume has amounted to about USD 1.5 trillion and the total number of overseas buyers attending the Canton Fair onsite and online has exceeded 12 million. The Fair has effectively promoted trade connections and friendly exchanges between China and the world.

The Central Committee of the CPC attaches great importance to the Canton Fair. President Xi Jinping sent important congratulatory letters to the 120th and 130th Canton Fair. In his letter to the 130th Canton Fair, he noted that it made significant contribution to facilitating international trade, connection between domestic and international markets, and economic development since its establishment. The letter endowed Canton Fair with a new historic mission, pointing a way for the Fair in the new journey of the new era. Premier Li Qiang visited the 135th Canton Fair, and emphasized that efforts should be made to build an all-year-round Canton Fair and a Canton Fair that leads the market. Further success should be achieved to burnish Canton Fair’s brand in the new era.

1.    Integration of online and offline, innovative exhibition mode

This year's Canton Fair was held in the form of online and offline synchronization, providing global buyers with one-stop trade services through a digital platform with a complete range of products, good quality and price, convenience and efficiency, and further reinforcing the brand effect of “China's No. 1 Fair”. The combination of online and offline mode not only improves the exhibition efficiency, but also expands the coverage and attracts more international buyers.

1.    Huge scale and optimized structure of the exhibition area

The exhibition covers a total area of 1.55 million square meters and is held in three phases (April 15 to May 5), with a total of 55 exhibition zones covering traditional areas such as household appliances, hardware and machinery, home textiles, etc. The new imported zones are about 30,000 square meters, attracting enterprises from 50 countries and regions, and the degree of internationalization has increased significantly. Imported exhibits include household appliances and other specialty goods from Turkey, reflecting the deep cooperation in the global supply chain.

1.    High quality of exhibitors, focusing on emerging areas

There were more than 43,000 exhibitors, including local delegations from Guangxi and Guizhou, which actively expanded into emerging markets. For example, the Guangxi delegation focused on new energy vehicles, special robots, smart homes and other innovations, while Guizhou promoted brand-name enterprises to optimize the exhibit structure. The types of exhibitors cover traditional manufacturing and high-tech enterprises, highlighting the trend of China's industrial upgrading.

1.    Customs Facilitation and Intelligent Supervision

Guangzhou Customs provides a green channel for inbound exhibits and realizes “one-click declaration” and “on-site inspection and release” through the “Intelligent Exhibition” information system, which significantly shortens the customs clearance time. Exhibits can enjoy preferential policies such as tax-free guarantee to ensure efficient exhibition. For example, the first batch of Turkish exhibits entered Nansha Port and went directly to the exhibition stage, with a seamless connection throughout the whole process.

1.    Strengthening Local Cooperation and International Services

Hong Kong's industrial and commercial sectors deepened their cooperation with the Canton Fair through promotional seminars, and upgraded the level of trade services with the help of Hong Kong's international legal, arbitration and other professional services. Guangxi, Guizhou and other places organized special training activities to help exhibitors improve their marketing strategies and brand promotion capabilities, and to promote “Guangxi Smart” and other local products to the international market.

1.    Comprehensive services and security

During the exhibition, the Customs and Excise Department set up a consulting desk at the exhibition to provide a full range of services, such as intellectual property protection and customs clearance policy guidance, and strengthened the awareness of corporate compliance through the “Commissioner of Customs and Excise sends policies to the door” and other means. At the same time, the use of booths is strictly regulated, and exhibitors are required to participate in the exhibition in accordance with the law to ensure transaction security.
