SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - A very colorful exhibition is kicking off Spring in the ongoing art series presented by the Thompson Savannah Hotel and Laney Contemporary Fine Art -- with the opening tonight of ‘A Bowl of Cherries.’

The show will feature the latest work of Savannah artist Elizabeth Winnel - and it will include vibrant paintings of various fruits in various forms.

Artist Elizabeth Winnel shares her inspiration behind the works, saying “A Bowl of Cherries was kind of inspired by the idea of or an extension of bodies and how my previous bodies of work and groups of work, I’ve looked at the human body and the idea of other bodies we might see whether they be bodily, alive, fruits, vegetables, animals or also systems. as well. So, A Bowl of Cherries is really about a coming together of these different ideas about the body and similarities between them.”

The double SCAD grad spent four months in her studio creating the pieces that will be displayed in the Thompson lobby for several weeks in the latest show by Laney Contemporary to promote regional artist to both local and visiting audience.

Susan Laney of Laney Contemporary Fine Art says, “Elizabeth has such a vibrant personality and this showcases both her desire to be more experimental and to utilize her ability to paint. She’s technically an incredible painter, and there’s some really fun pieces and also very experimental pieces. so, there’s a little bit of every thing from Liz in this one.”

“A Bowl of Cherries’’ will open tonight with a wine reception from 6-8 at the Thompson’s Bar by Fleeting.

That event is open to the public and the artist will be there to greet guests - and the exhibition is free to go see for as long as it’s up.
