If you are allergic or sensitive to caffeine, you may want to pay extra special attention to the label of your decaf coffee.
Bags of ground decaf coffee distributed across 15 states are now being recalled after certain bags of “caffeinated” coffee were mislabeled as “decaffeinated,” according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Massimo Zanetti Beverage USA voluntarily issued the recall of Our Family Traverse Ground Coffee on March 13, and the FDA classified it as a “Class II recall” on Tuesday, March 25.
A Class II recall, according to the FDA, is when “a situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”
The affected bags were sold in 15 states, including Colorado, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Minnesota, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Wyoming, according to the FDA.
The recalled product was sold in 12-ounce bags with a sell-by date of Aug. 3, 2025.
Neither the FDA or the company provided instructions on what to do with the recalled product, but those who have caffeine sensitivity or can’t have caffeinated products for health reasons should not brew and drink the coffee, and instead discard the product.
