EVESHAM moved ever-closer to top spot, grinding out a 1-0 win over Tavistock while league-leaders Yate drew their fourth game in their last six.
Yate dropping points at home in a 1-1 draw to Bemerton Heath Harlequins sees Evesham move within one point of first place in the Southern League South.
It was a cagey affair from the off as neither Evesham or Tavistock could find a clear-cut chance throughout the opening 45 minutes. Contending with the dry surface and strong winds, neither side could truly settle into the game.
A string of half-chances fell for both teams but they went into the break at a 0-0 deadlock.
Evesham came out hungry in the second period and took the game to Tavistock.
However, the first serious chance of the second half fell to the home side. A half-volley from close in stung the hands of Alex Harris - a fantastic save in net but it wouldn't have counted anyway with the forward in an offside position.
Soon after Andre Wright did well down the right for Evesham to muscle Lambs left back Max Edgecombe off the ball. He sent in a cross, but saw it caught by the Tavistock goalkeeper.

Evesham continued to press. With 15 minutes to play, manager Mike Ford was handed a yellow card for dissent but he wasn't complaining soon after as Wright bagged the only goal of the game.
Aaron Heap poked the ball through to Toby Raison, who in turn found Will Owens.
Owens cut in and let one fly at goal. His effort was parried out by the home shot stopper but only as far as Wright who calmly finished home from close range.
The result sees Tavistock remain in 16th-place and still not completely safe from the drop.
As they continue their late run for the title, The Robins await a tough tie with playoff-chasing Exmouth Town next weekend.
