To celebrate California Arbor Day, the Eureka Sequoia Garden Club arranged for the nationally famous Tree Circus to come to town to delight and educate local students at Washington Elementary and Pacific Union Elementary schools on March 17 and 18.

A Sequoia Garden Club press release says, “Our Humboldt County students were treated to a high-energy and educational program on the importance of trees in the environment and in our neighborhoods. With two shows each day entertaining hundreds of kids, Tree Circus wowed both children and staff. The show is filled with humor, energy and audience participation. The students are encouraged to answer questions and participate with the program.”

Tree Circus founder Timmy Womick and his colleague, naturalist Grayson Keating, added nearly 1,000 children to the many others who have seen this show in California and throughout the United States for the past 11 years.

The press release continues, “Although many across the country celebrate Arbor Day at the end of April, California celebrates Arbor Day early on March 7 in honor of famed California horticulturalist Luther Burbank’s birthday. In 2011, the California State Assembly and Senate approved Resolution ACR 10 (Dickinson), making California Arbor Day a week-long celebration during March 7 to 14 every year.”

Tree Circus is sponsored by a grant from the U.S. Forest Service, Cal Fire, the Britton Fund and the Western Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture. Every March, in celebration of Arbor Day, the Tree Circus travels throughout California, visiting elementary schools. For more information about Tree Circus, visit www.treecircus.org.
