Governor of Jonglei State Dr, Riak Gai Kok on Tuesday emphasised the need to invest in education and agriculture to foster development across the State.
Speaking during the welcoming ceremony of the SPLM chairperson and briefing of its members, Dr. Gai who also doubles as the SPLM Chairperson in Jonglei State stressed that Education helps transform the society to contribute positively to national building.
“Education can transform people, and if all communities invest in education across Jonglei State, we can eliminate current atrocities such as child abduction and cattle raiding,” he stated.
The reception ceremony for the chairperson of the SPLM was organized by the SPLM secretariat in the state and attended by senior SPLM/SPLA veterans, members of the SPLM National Liberation Council, the state SPLM Liberation Council, the SPLM State Secretariat, the SPLM State Legislative and Executive Councils, as well as the Women’s and Youth League, among others.
In his remarks, Dr. Gai emphasized that the primary vision of the SPLM party is to deliver services to the people of South Sudan.
“All we need to do is the work. During my tenure, I will avoid lobbies and will focus critically on those who are providing services to our people. The country needs to prioritize several areas, including education, agriculture, and, above all, maintaining peace among communities to ensure coexistence,” Dr. Gai stated.
Dr. Gai assured that his administration will collaborate closely with the government of Jonglei State to improve educational infrastructure and strengthen learning opportunities across the state.
“We must focus on developmental projects. With Dr. John Garang University here, we can enhance secondary and primary schools to produce students who can positively contribute to nation-building,” he added.
He also promised to work with authorities in neighboring states to ensure proper security to facilitate agricultural activities this season.
