THE Departments of Agriculture (DA) and Trade and Industry (DTI) are stepping up their joint Bantay Presyo market monitoring efforts due to non-compliance with the maximum suggested retail price (MSRP) for pork in Metro Manila markets.

"During our market visit, we observed that liempo (pork belly) was being sold at P420 to P440 per kilo, and kasim (pork shoulder) and pigue (pork leg/ham) at P370 to P380, prices that clearly exceed the MSRPs. This is alarming, especially since the farmgate price of pork remains around P250 to P255," said lawyer Genevieve Velicaria-Guevarra, DA assistant secretary for Agribusiness, Marketing, and Consumer Affairs.
