NBC’s Seth Meyers on Monday joined the chorus of critics torching Donald Trump for focusing more urgently on NFL players’ right to protest than just about any other issue facing the United States, aptly summing up the controversy by saying, “our president is an assh*le.”

Meyers noted while the U.S. is currently dealing with escalating tensions in North Korea and a catastrophic natural disaster in Puerto Rico, Trump this weekend decided he would give us “one more sh*t thing for us to deal with.”

Playing footage of Trump calling NFL players who kneel during the national anthem “sons of b*tches” at a rally on Alabama las weekend, Meyers joked how “embarrassing it is that news anchors now have to introduce comments from the president by warning little children to leave the room”

Focusing on the part of Trump’s “unhinged rant” where the president suggested fewer people are watching the NFL because they’re more focused on the reality show that is his administration, Meyers said, “That’s right in Donald Trump’s mind, people are turning off NFL games, gathering their friends and ordering pizza to watch an out of shape blowhard shuffle around like he got separated from a tour group.”

“Trump is better than the NFL because with Trump you get all of the concussions with none of the hitting,” he joked.

“By now, it should be clear to everyone who Donald Trump is and what he represents,” Meyers continued. "When black athletes peacefully protest racism and police brutality, Trump has no trouble summoning his outrage. But when white supremacists march with Nazi flags and Confederate flags through the streets of an American city, he equivocates and then defends them.”

The “Late Night” host then introduced Amber Ruffin, a comedian and writer for his show, who remarked, “you know someone is racist when they don't even want black people on their field.”

“If slavery didn’t break us, this idiot certainly can’t, you raggedy fool!” Ruffin later added.

Meyers concluded his segment by quoting Buffalo Bills running back Lesean McCoy, who this weekend tweeted:
