Saudi Arabia foils new missile attack

JEDDAH, Jan 20 (KUNA) -- Saudi air defense forces intercepted a ballistic missile fired by the Iranian-backed Houthi militias from Yemen towards Najran, south of the kingdom, said the command of coalition forces to support the legitimacy in Yemen.
The missile was unleashed by the Houthis from Saada toward the Saudi territories, spokesman for the coalition Colonel Turki Al-Maliki said in a statement, broadcast by the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) on Saturday.
The rocket was intended to hit residential areas in Najran, Col. Al-Maliki added.
The hostile action by the Iranian-backed Houthis proves anew involvement of the Iranian regime, supplying the armed Houthi groups with advanced weapons, in explicit defiance of UN resolutions 2216 and 2231, with intention to threaten security of the kingdom, the region and the world.
Col. Al-Maliki renewed a call on the international community to take serious and effective action to stop "the blatant Iranian violations" of continued smuggling and transfer of ballistic missiles and weapons to the terrorist groups and outlaws.
The Houthis, including the latest rocket attack, have unleashed 90 such missiles on the kingdom since launch of the coalition "restoration hope." (end) nh.rk
