DOHA: The State of Qatar and the Republic of Paraguay held a session of official talks chaired by Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and President Mario Abdo Benitez of the Republic of Paraguay, at the Presidential Palace in the capital city Asuncion, last evening.
At the beginning of the meeting, the President of Paraguay welcomed H H the Amir and the accompanying delegation. He expressed his pleasure at H H the Amir’s acceptance of the invitation to visit Paraguay, especially as it coincides with the 17th anniversary of the establishment of relations between the two countries, looking forward to strengthening bilateral relations of friendship and cooperation in the coming years.
For his part, H H the Amir expressed his thanks to the President for the warm welcome and affirmed his keenness to strengthen relations with the Republic of Paraguay and develop them for the benefit of the two friendly countries and peoples.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed the cooperation relations at various levels, especially in the economic, investment, trade and cultural areas, as well as the air transportation sector. The talks also dealt with the latest developments on the regional and international arenas of common interest.
The meeting was attended by members of the official delegation accompanying H H the Amir. On the Paraguay side, it was attended by the Vice-President Hugo Velazquez, and a number of ministers and senior officials.
Earlier, H H the Amir and President of Paraguay, held a bilateral meeting at the Presidential Palace, during which they discussed means to promote and develop bilateral relations in various fields of interest to both countries, especially in economic, trade and agricultural fields, besides youth and sports affairs.
They also discussed the latest developments on the regional and international arenas. Upon his arrival at the Presidential Palace in Asuncion, H H the Amir was accorded an official reception.
H H the Amir arrived yesterday afternoon at the capital Asuncion, on a state visit to the Republic of Paraguay.
On his arrival at Silvio Pettirossi International Airport, H H the Amir was greeted by Minister for Foreign Affairs of Paraguay Luis Alberto Castelloni, and Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of the State of Qatar to Paraguay, Abdul Rahman Ahmed Al Suwaidi, and Ambassador of Paraguay to the State of Qatar, Angel Ramon Barchini, as well as the members of the Qatari Embassy in Paraguay and a number of Paraguayan school students.
At the reception ceremony at the airport, H H the Amir was handed over the key to the city of Asuncion by Mayor of Luque, Carlos Echeverria, as the guest of honour of the Republic of Paraguay, expressing the friendly relations between the two countries.
H H the Amir also paid a visit to the Republic of Paraguay’s National Congress building. Upon arrival, H H the Amir was greeted by Silvio Ovelar, President of the National Congress and President of the Senate, and his deputy Miguel Cuevas, Chairman of Chamber of Deputies, and a number of Their Excellencies members of the two chambers of the National Congress.
During the visit, H H the Amir reviewed with the President of the National Congress and his deputy and members the prospects of developing friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the legislative and parliamentary fields, as well as the exchange of experiences in related fields.
H H the Amir also met with President of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Republic of Paraguay, Raul Torres Kirmser, and members of the court, and Minister of the Supreme Court of Justice, Luis Benitez Riera, during his visit to the Supreme Court of Justice building in Asuncion.
The meeting dealt with the prospects of judicial and legal cooperation between the two countries. The meeting was attended by Their Excellencies members of the official delegation accompanying H H the Amir.
