Three Northland mums have put on a powerful display in a CrossFit competition in Australia.
Rochelle Record, Kim Grison and Charmaine Soljak were part of the Auckland Regional team who competed at the Master League Games on the Gold Coast at the end of September.
Record, who owns both Barbell Jungle in Whangārei and Warkworth CrossFit, won the hero 40-44 division while Grison won the warrior 50-54 division.
Soljak finished 12th in the soldier 45-49 division. The Auckland team won the regional cup.
Qualifying for the event was a rigorous process. Firstly the women took part in an online competition. The top athletes then went to a regional competition in Auckland and from this the top three from each age division were selected.
Teams from Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch went to compete.
Record said it was the first time the individual competitions had been held as part of the Master League Games. It was the second year she had attended the event with Auckland, who defended their team crown.
She said this year's competition was hard.
"I've had a back injury and my training hasn't been what it should be."
Record said she came up against a lot of good competition over the two days.
They had various WoDs or Workout of the Day, to do which Record said contained "everything they can possibly think of to make you suffer".
At the end of the competition she said she was tired but stoked for her gym.
Record said it was very exciting to see Grison win as well.
"I was really super proud of Charmaine and Kim. Even to get there, it's a big deal."
Record has quickly switched her focus to the New Zealand Team Nationals.
Two teams of six from each of her gyms are competing in Mount Maunganui today and tomorrow .
The gyms had held an internal competition to select the athletes, made up of three females and three males.
Record said there were "lots of newbies" in the team, with a few experienced heads such as herself.
She was looking forward to the competition.
"Teams events are way more fun."
