The LA Conservation Corps Celebrates Second Chances & Success at Their Annual Spring Luncheon

The LA Conservation Corps returns to the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion for the Annual Luncheon

Supervisor Hilda Solis to deliver keynote address; Whole Foods Market will be honored with the  Trailblazer Award.

LOS ANGELES, CA, USA, April 3, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ -- ------ The LA Conservation Corps announces its Annual Spring Luncheon celebration to benefit the Corps and the Russell Kantor Next Steps Fund. Anyone who has attended this event in the past knows that passion and emotion run high at the Annual Luncheon. It’s a good idea to bring tissues for moist eyes.

The celebration will take place Friday, April 27, 2018, from 11:30AM- 1:30PM at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion located at 135 North Grand Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90012.

Supervisor Hilda L. Solis, a great friend to and partner of the LA Conservation Corps, will serve as the event’s keynote speaker. She has a distinguished resume of public service including recognition as the first Hispanic woman to serve in the State Senate and the first female recipient of the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award. She is one of the most respected politicians in California. "I am excited and honored to deliver the keynote address at the LA Conservation Corps' luncheon. The Corps has done great work in my district and throughout the County for more than three decades. I often seek opportunities to partner with them because we both care deeply about improving local neighborhoods while providing opportunities to underserved young adults, building their self-esteem so they can pursue their life and career goals. I draw inspiration from the Corpsmembers who rise above life's challenges and every day proudly demonstrate their innate need to succeed. I look forward to celebrating the LA Conservation Corps and their many accomplishments."

In recognition of their generosity and commitment to the Corpsmembers and the nonprofit community, and their joint messages of community and sustainability, the Corps will honor Whole Foods Market with the Trailblazer Award. A spokesperson for Whole Foods Market stated: “We’re honored to receive this year’s Trailblazer Award from LA Conservation Corps. We’ve worked with the Corps for several years and are proud to bear witness to the way the LA Conservation Corps transforms lives.”

While the LA Conservation Corps appreciates the participation of Supervisor Solis and Whole Foods Market, the organization recognizes that the stars of the program at the luncheon and throughout the year are the Corpsmembers who have committed their time and energy to enhancing communities and self-improvement. For more than 32 years, the LA Conservation Corps has been a relentless positive force in the community as a youth development organization, successfully transforming thousands of lives and enhancing communities by educating, training and employing at-risk young adults through their participation in conservation and beautification projects across Los Angeles. A cornerstone of the organization’s youth development mission has been education. Presenting deserving Corpsmembers and alumni with awards from the Russell Kantor Next Steps Fund is a great honor and will enable these young people to have the bright future they deserve.

“Serving our Corpsmembers reaps great benefits for the community,” stated Wendy Butts, Chief Executive Officer for the LA Conservation Corps. “We make every effort to put them in a position to succeed and in return, they use their developed skills and strong work ethic to remove graffiti, recycle bottles and cans, repair sidewalks, install solar panels and more. Our annual luncheon is a clear demonstration of triumph over challenges. It’s an honor to recognize our Corpsmembers and to celebrate their perseverance and accomplishments.”
